I just wanted to share these pictures, since they came out so great lol. With all the pictures I take, I bet you guys think I'm conceded lol j/k. Anyway, the main reason I wanted to share these pictures with you guys was for the makeup. I think my makeup learning is coming along great. I don't like the lipstick color as much (or maybe it needs to grow on me). I need to learn how to do contouring, eyebrows, and maybe improve some more with the eye shadows. How long have you been sisterlocked?

Since September 2003

Most people start off sisterlocks with their natural hair, not many do it with permed. What made you decide to start your sisterlocks with permed ends?

The original plan was not to have perm end, I was trying to find a Loctician, during my initial consultation, to attach fake locks since I didn't want to have short hair. "Perm ends" end up being the only true alternative to not having short hair. It was so hard in the beginning to grow out enough hair for installation. I went from roller wraps, to having to wear French braids for 2 months, just to grow out enough new growth to lock.

Do you feel your journey has been greatly different due to the fact that you started off with permed ends?

Yes! Made me appreciate natural hair after never seeing it since the age of 7! I was 27 when I was sisterlocked! After just a month or so of being natural, the appearance of fine, cold black, strong, curly hair started to come in, and boy did I begin to hate the appearance of the stringy and cumbersome to care for permed ends.

Did you cut off your perm ends? If yes, when did you decided to cut off your permed ends and why?

I started to hate having to roll my perms ends or use curling iron to straighten it, so I started tucking it and wrapping it up into the lock in order to hide it after a while. It was too funny! I secretly began to chop them off between appointments (like she couldn't tell, lol), and after one year, the official cutting of the permed ends ceremony took place at a retightening appointment. I could not have been happier! I loved my bouncy cutie pie coils!

Knowing what you know now, would you start your sisterlocks with the permed ends again?

Sure would, going from permy, I needed to experience the opportunity of learning to value my natural hair, because I never valued it before. I hid it under my straightened fakeness, and I had to grow in order to know that my hair in its natural state was fine, interesting and beautiful, desirable and what a statement!

Have there been any weird questions or events while being sisterlocks?

Yes, that the corporate world would shun it, told this by other blacks. And I get asked all the time about how much of the hair is really my own! People ask how do I clean it, and lots of folks wanna touch it! Or just stare!

What would you like to inform others about being sisterlocks (especially with permed ends)?

Like all growth in life, it's a process, especially to go from straight to natural. Enjoy it, style it, play with it and have fun!

I have always been curious about sisterlocks sister that started off with perm ends, so I decided to interview two wonderful ladies about their experience with their sisterlocks with perm ends.

So if you have perm ends, and are wondering about what issues, if any, may or has arisen, check this and the other post out.

How long have you been sisterlocked?

I have been locked for about 9 months (My installation was done on 7/22/2013). My Loctician said I don't have to braid or bind anymore, she also thinks I can color and cut, if I choose, so I guess my locks are fully mature now.

I read during research, that you can have sisterlocks install with permed ends, and my Loctician showed me picture of women with permed ends. I actually have texturized ends, but my Loctician says it’s the same as permed. I only had about 2 inches of new growth, when I decided to get sisterlocks, and I wasn't comfortable with cutting off all my hair.

Do you feel your journey has been greatly different due to the fact that you started off with permed ends?

I never had the "awkward stage" that I have been hearing and reading about. I've loved my hair from the very beginning. The only thing I have experience is a little bunching, but I just pulled them out. I really don't do anything to my ends as far as maintaining is concern.

During my first wash, I had my starter shampoo in a spray bottle, but that fell and broke. My Loctician told me to go ahead use baby shampoo, and that what I have used ever since.

Lately my hair seems to be dryer, so on 3/20/2013, my Loctician decided to use a moisturizer when she styled me, but other than that, I mostly braid and wash...that's it.

Did you cut off your perm ends? If yes, when did you decided to cut off your permed ends and why?

I still have my ends. I'm sure in the future I will cut them, but as of now, I like how they look.

Knowing what you know now, would you start your sisterlocks with the permed ends again?

If I had to install my sisterlocks again, I would still go with perms ends. I like my hair and my journey so far, and I don't really see a reason to cut off all my hair, especially since I'm not ready for that. If I ever do want short hair, I can have it.

Have there been any weird questions or events while being sisterlocks?

The bunching is the only "weird" experience I get. I get a lot of compliments and questions once in a while, but nothing weird.

My friends like to play in my hair a lot and I too can't keep my hands out of my hair either.

What would you like to inform others about being sisterlocks (especially with permed ends)?

Braid outs are my best friend! They help keep the perms ends looking nice. I work out a lot these days, and braiding them helped me avoid bad hair days.

I notice I had some build up on my last "update" post, and it really did bug the heck out of me. I didn't have time to address the issue then, since I'm in the process of moving, and thing just kept creeping up.

Well I continue to wash with the Suave Clarifying Shampoo, since I still have some left, but it never really took care of the issue, no matter how hard I washed my hair, so I figured at some point; I'm going to need to do a BSW & ACV. Well it seems I don't need to do that. I happen to notice Suave has a professional line that has Rosemary Mint, and it said it is comparable to Aveda. Below are the results of the wash with that brand of shampoo.

This result post is not a complete result post since I only did two of them, before calling it quits....lol. I'm sorry, but I have NO patience for stuff like this (I'm so lazy -_-).  Maybe that is why I'm perfectly willing to let others work on my hair.

Applying the highlight though weave takes a LONG time, and you have to make sure you don't take the weave to thickly. If you take the weave too thick, you get the below result (see first and second picture), which is loose weave around the locks. I'm going to stick with my spray and do another result post with purple highlights once I get some purple hair spray.

For any of my followers that do have patience to do stuff like this, bless you, and I hope you don't run into me because I will bug you into doing mines :). If you interested in the "how to" on this, check out this post.  I also believe the thread would be a lot easier to deal with than the weave.

So I have been itching to color my hair with some purple highlights for a min now. I was going to do it with a temporary spray, but then I ran into a post on the sisterlocks fan page (Ms. Bacchus) that suggested using weave. Now I never thought I would be putting weaves on my hair again, but hey, to spice up my locks, I'm willing to do anything that is considered SAFE.

I have not found my purple weave yet, but I did have an old package of honey blond hair left, and I tested the water with that. The result was pretty and can only improve when I do decide to set a time for it. This method of adding highlight to sisterlocks vs. the spray, takes a whole lot longer, but I would imagine this would last a lot longer.

Material Needed
Color Weave or Embroidery Thread
Hair Bands
Scissors
Hair Pin

Step 1 - Pick where you want your highlights to go.


Step 2 - Use your hair band to tie down your locks. Since I have a lot of locks, I found splitting my locks into two section helps keep the stray locks from coming around the section I'm working on.


Step 3 - Pull out a small patch of your color weave/strands (or 1 thread). The amount  of the weave will depend on how thick your individual locks is, especially if you going to do it with with one or more locks. Note: I suggest doing it with at least two locks, which helps with the undoing of them.


Step 4a - You will need to create a magic knot. To do that, you will need to twist one of the strand (tread) over the next one.


Step 4b - Then you going to take one of the strand, and pull it through the hole you just created from the twist on 4a. You can see a live view on how to make the magic knot via curlynugrowth).



Step 5 - You are then going enter your lock into your hoop, and then when you reach the roots, you are going to tighten it.


Step 5 - Using the hair clip, you are then going to hold down the hair at the root. Note: If you don't do this step, the knot will not hold still, making it difficult to do Step 6.


Step 6 - You than going to wrap/twist the weave starting from the root to the end. This is seriously time consuming, and you will need time to do this. I did this quickly to do this post, but I will be taking my time for the result post.  Note: If your locks are longer then your weave, try making your weave strand uneven ( longer at one side) to extend the length.



Step 7 - Go past the length of your lock (not much, since you are not trying to extent it). Then you going to tie the ends in a shoestring knots. I did this quickly, but when I do this again, I will make sure there is no black hair poking out.

This was easy to achieve, but will take a while to do, and that is why I'm going to wait until I find my purple weave in order to do highlights on my locks. Will release a result post soon. Below is me taking the weave out with no issue (Note: it does take a while to undo though).
