My Experience at Run or Dye 5K (Fort Lauderdale)

8:56 AM

Running at the Run or Dye 5K was a very fun and exciting experience, and I will always recommend to try it at least once, and only if you are into running (or walking). I sign on pretty early at $25, but I personally don't think it is worth at $45 if you sign up later.

Would I do this event again? The answer is no, and that is due to two things. The first is that they didn't do any "timing" on that location (they don't do it period, and I totally missed that fact in their FAQ'S), and the second was no medals for actually participating in the 5K. I admit that I was spoiled with my last 5K, and I honestly had a higher expectation with this one.

Below are pictures of my dye experience. It was a VERY messy experience. The dye also became yucky toward the end, since I ran the whole thing. I believed I beat my last 5K time (I had to base it on my own numbers). My timing was 28.5 (note: last time I timed myself, I end up having a faster time when the official result was release).  If you are curious on how well the dye came off my Sisterlocks, please continue reading.

The 5K Kit
The kit that came with Run or Dye was pretty simple. It came with a bag, bib, bracelet, 1 packet of dye, and shirt (plus a $10 coupon to Sport Authority). The Sunglass I won by dancing (^_^), because I didn't realizes how much I NEEDED it until the dye started being toss around! Some of the dye keeps getting caught in my eye, so a sister had to BUS a move in order to get a pair. So a really important lesson was learn that day, you MUST bring a pair of sunglasses if you plan on doing something like this in the future (you can also purchase a pair at their store). They also do a festival music & dance after the run, where dye is toss all over you and your family, but unfortunate the festival got rain out in the Fort Lauderdale location.

The Clean Up
Finally on to the Sisterlocks! I originally planned on wearing a shower cap and just have a bandanna wrapped over it. When the "D" day finally came, I did proceed to go with the shower cap and bandanna concept, but in the end, I thought it looked too ghetto (ratchet -_-). Plus I already know my Sisterlocks would have gotten all sweaty underneath the cap, and I would have to wash my sisterlocks anyways. So in the end, I decided to go with the flow, and wore my hair in a pointy tail. As you can see below, and prior pictures on the What I Wore series, I had no problem with the removal of the dye. I just rinsed my lock thoroughly, and then I shampoo and condition my hair it with my brand new set (will release a review on them later).

Well thanks for reading and I hope you guys have a super duper amazing weekend.

It's a shame they didn't officially time the event or award medals! :(

Glad the Sisterlocks came clean (they Look Great too) it would have been awkward with a multi colored do! My luck color would be permanent. lol

    1. Yeah it was a total shame that they didn't even give a medals for even going to the event. I was totally bum (I guess I'm really a kid at heart -_-).

As for my moves...it only comes out out in the "dark" or in this case for some really great pairs of sunglasses lol ^_^

    1. It did, I was surprise how easy it was to take off. Then again, I did put chalk on my hair in the past, and I rubbed it on there too, so I really shouldn't be too surprised ^_-.
