Miami Trip: 13th Annual Haitian Compas Festival

4:23 PM

I haven't been to the Compas Festival in over 6 years, and I must say, the natural hairstyle & dreadlocks are a whole lot more popular now in the Haitian community then they have been in the past. Took a couple of pictures and I wanted to share them with you guys. I can say for the most part, the term "vagabond", is starting to be phase out for those wearing dreads (well at least in Florida). I also have to start getting use to the stares and the touching of my sisterlocks (*sigh*). Picture on the right is my friends nails for Haitian Day, I thought it was pretty cool.

How I Wore My Hair

I spent an hour putting Perm Rods and still didn't get the "Shirley Temple" type of curls that I wanted. I also notice that I have to put even less locks about 5-8 locks to get that curl. So I will need to buy some more perm rods. I also notice that I will need some kind of settling lotion. Haven't decided which settling lotion that I want yet. Even though I was not completely satisfy with the result of this style, I received many compliments. A lot of people didn't realize that was my hair, hence a lot of touching and tugging.

This is a flat twist with curls in the front & the back. I need something to smooth my sides when I'm doing these type of style. This style was completely put together with water spray, rubber bands, and perm rods.

The perm rods made my sisterlocks super THICK.

Need a retighen done, which will be on May 18th.

  4. @Oldine Wow...then I would prefer "vagabond" to come back then. They have gotten worst with their expression. I mean "tet raje"? My brother free-form and that was the worst kind as far as Haitian are concern but I believe his is really nice.

  5. Kreyola, your hair has grown so beautifully and I do love the curls. That flower adds drama to the style and I don't blame people for "touching and tugging". Now those other locked heads.... phew!!! so lovely, so chic, so uniquely gorgeous. Thanks for sharing. Will try out some of those styles.
