I had a fresh retightening done and a graduation to go to. What a girl to do? Like I explained on my previous post, I'm noticed my sisterlocks are getting flatter after every retighten. So I decided once again to wear my sisterlocks in a ponytail.

I decided to do my simple loose pony tail with flat twists. I also added a hump in the front to add a little flare to this style. Underneath are the pictures and the "how to" for this style. As always comments are welcome =).

Material Needed
Hair Pins or Bobby Pins
Hair Tie
Your Bump of Choice
(ex. handkerchief, hair net)
Aloe Vera Gel

Step 1) Make a big part in the front. Keep in mind, the bigger the part, the longer (distances) your flat twists will be.

Step 2) I put the rest of my sisterlocks in a temporary ponytail, just to get my sisterlocks out of the way.

Step 3) You will first create your hump by using whatever material that match your locks or that can be hidden underneath your locks. I use a small black handkerchief. Then you will use a bobby pin to pin your locks over the hump. The size of your hump is all up to you. I decided to do a small hump.

Step 4) You will proceed to do a flat twist on both sides of your scalp pining them down with bobby pins or hair pins. I don't do tight hair style, hence why I use hair pins, but you welcome to use rubber band if you want a tighter lasting result.

Step 5) Remove your temporary holds on the rest of your locks and put your locks in a ponytail. You can smooth out your baby hairs with an Aloe Vera Gel or a gel of your choice.

OK, OK, I know I'm overdoing it with title, but it does fit this post well.

I'm becoming very attached to my selection of Scrunchies & Hair Ties. It now seem that I MUST carry one in my purse, as well as my wrist. The picture on the right is one of my favorite hair tie for simple every day use. It doesn't put any pressures on my sisterlocks because I don't double tie it. After many uses, it will start to stretch, but I still don't double tie it. I just get a brand new one when it becomes loose.

Now this post will not only be about my obsession with the scrunchies and hair ties, but updated pictures as well of my sisterlocks.

When buying 100% Pure Essential Oils, have you ever notice or paid any attention to the color of the bottles? You will notice they come either in a dark amber (more common), cobalt blue, or green bottle. The reason behind this is simple. Many believe to maintain the EO's purity, you must put it in a darker bottle to prevent sunlight for diluting/breaking up the EO potency. Essential Oils benefits and effectiveness will last longer when they are contain in a darker bottle, preferably amber, cobalt blue, and green. Now there are some debates on whether the color of the bottles really makes a different for essential oils, and that may be true for some EOs, but does it really matter? Would buying an amber bottle vs. a clear bottle really hurt you?

When other element are added to your essential oils, for example carrier oils and water, those element will depreciate your EOs, so adding a little extra protection is not a big deal, especially since the amber, cobalt blue, and green bottles cost about the same as the clear ones.

So when you are thinking of buying a bottle for your mixtures, whether it a spray or rub on, keep in mind the color you want. Amber bottles are my choice for preventing sunlight from diluting my mixture any further, as well as shortening the life span of my EO Mixtures.

Note: It also recommended to store any essential oils in a cool dark place to maintain the life span of that product.

I was checking out another dreadlocks forum the other day, since I needed to gather information for a post that I'm currently working on. To view that forum you have to sign up, once you have signed up you automatically get a profile page. That same day I received a "welcome" message on my profile page which wasn't all that welcoming.

"welcome sisterlocks are interlocked interlockinmgs very bad for dreades and should never be done as maintenance only maintenance you should do is washing and seperating to prevent congos but sisterlocks you probly should let alot congo so they wont be so weak"

I will not be advertising this particular forum at all! This site claims to be unbias about all methods, but with a welcome message like that, and all the warnings that are display on the site about interlocking, etc., fails to convince me otherwise. So after lurking for a couple days, I decided to leave. This site wasn't for me.


Rip & Twist - I literally cringe at the name lol. I looked into it and found that its not like interlocking. I believe "Rip & Twist" Method is more closely related to "Backcombing" Method than anything else. I mean seriously, with the wonder of the Internet, you think someone who so against every other method would at least get these 2 methods right. Right?

Anyway from what I gather of the two methods, both are ways to start off dreadlocks. I'm still trying to figure out how the "Rip & Twist" method is maintained. From what I gather, not 100% sure, you can either maintain the new locks by either interlocking (which I think is where the confusion lies), palm rolling, or by letting it be. It took me one day to find this information out, and this guy who is considered a guru couldn't find this information out himself? To Each His Own...I Guess.
