I have been doing the "hot oil treatment" for a while, and finally got around doing a tutorial that was not base on using the bonnet dryer. I did another color rinse update at the same time as well (I bet you didn't know you can do that ^_^), since the last time I did a rinse on  my hair was in October of 2012. Below are the result after applying adore jet black color rinse, hot oil treatment, and getting a retighten. My locks are nice, fresh, and light now. I just love how healthy my locks looks after a color rinse and hot oil treatment. It takes a lot of time, but it's so worth it.

This is how I apply my hot oil treatment, based on how a user on Facebook explained, and my findings. I also recommend applying this on settle locks only! Please keep in mind that even though your locks are settled, please do it a day prior to getting your locks retighten (my apologies to all the sisterlocks consultants O_O).

The reason why you want to do this hot oil treatment a day prior to your retighten is that your consultant will need to fix the slippages that may or bound to happen. Note: I choose not to do this with my hair bonnet dryer since a lot of my reader may not have that option. If you do have a bonnet hair dryer, just do Step 1,2, 5, 6, and Final Step and sit under your dryer for 10-20 min.

Material Needed
Shower Cap
Vegetable Oil (Coconut Oil , Castor Oil, Olive Oil , etc.)
Essential Oils (I used Lavender , Sage , & Rosemary for it soothing & growth properties.)
Big Bowl
Small Bowl
Micro Fiber Towel


STEP 1: Split your locks into four sections. Please note that my hair is currently under going hair color from Adore. If you decide to do a rinse at the same time, make sure the adore rinse is completely dry before applying this treatment.



STEP 2. Mix your oils in a small bowl.  Note: I used Olive Oil (ran out of Jojoba Oil) & Castor Oil as my vegetable oil. I wish I could use castor oil alone but it's way to thick, but at the same time, I like how soft the castor oil makes my locks. That is why I choose to mix it with a lighter oil (preferable Jojoba Oil).








STEP 3: Fill a big bowl with hot water and microwave it. You want it hot. Takes about 10 minute depending on the microwave. Note: This step could be avoided by using using a hair bonnet dryer.




STEP 4: Soak your towel in the hot water. You will let that cool down a bit until it's not burning hot. While the towel is soaking, proceed to Step 5.



STEP 5: Warm up your hot oil treatment, make sure it is not burning hot (you want it to be very warm). You are going to apply it to your sisterlocks from root to tip. I also massage my scalp with my hand that was already oily for extra circulation. That is totally optional!




STEP 6: Cover your locks with an inexpensive shower caps. If you have longer locks, you may not be able to get away with inexpensive cap, since they tend to run small, and my locks are starting to not fit them.


STEP 7: Your towel should be hot, but not hot to touch. Grab it and wring most of the water out and then wrap the hot towel over your covered locks.



STEP 8: While the towel is on your locks, reheat the bowl of water again. Repeat Step 7 again after the towel on your head has cool down.

FINAL STEP: Once you have completed Step 8, go ahead and thoroughly wash your locks with shampoo & conditioner (I used a moisturizing set). I highly recommend doing the final rinse with cool water to seal in the hair shaft and minimize the fizziness of your locks.



I tend to do this treatment after I have done a deep clarifier or applying a color rinse. That is how I restore moisture back to my locks, after putting my locks through the ringer. The above picture is the final result of a color update and a hot oil treatment. My hair needs a retighten, and I made sure I did it before my appointment.

Note: I can stress enough that this is NOT for newbie locks. This is only for settle locks. Also with settle locks, you may experience slippage around the trouble spot you had while your sisterlocks was transitioning. Also, if you have issue with fizzy locks, this is NOT for you. I repeat, if you have issue with fizzy locks, this is NOT for you!!!

Keep your treated locks covered at home, and make sure to avoid wearing lint heavy clothes the day of the treatment.

I do want the knowledge of being able to take care of my hair. The problem/question that come up is do I want to cough up $250 for the knowledge now, by taking the Retightening Class, or pay to become a Certified Sisterlocks Consultant. Even if I go with either option, I still plan on letting someone else maintain my sisterlocks. It is bad enough that I spent 4 1/2 to 5 hours getting a retighten, having to maintain my hair will no doubt be longer and spread out between days.

Now the reason I'm lending toward being a Certified Sisterlocks Consultant is because of my daughter. My daughter has been requesting to do her hair like mines, she is seven now, and the amount and density of her hair will have me paying out of the pocket of more than a $1,000 (even if I go with small and medium size for her). Now I know I can bring the cost down by cutting her hair down to 2-3 inches, but that is not an option for me, since her hair is natural, long and healthy now.

Now the consultant course on the other hand is $1,495.00. Don't know if I want to go that route either, since all I will be doing is maintaining my daughter hair, until I retire from my current career. If all else fail, and I'm in the situation where I can't have my consultant do my hair (or can't find Retightening Class), I will maintain temporarily by interlocking, since I have been practicing the different rotation for months. To all my followers, you may not have notice, but most of my pictures are taken outside my backyard. My backyard has been my playground ever since I had my sisterlocks installed. I'm now moving to a new townhouse that doesn't have a backyard attached. I have to figure out how or where I will be taking my pictures without looking odd or self-centered.

I remember a time when my locks were so short, that I couldn't even do a single pointy tail (*chuckling*) and I had to make do by parting my locks in the middle and then tying them down. I also had to wrap my locks with a bandana to reduce slippages and unraveling locks due to sweats.

Now those days are long gone and so last season (I know I'm too much ^_-). I eventually graduated to a single pointy tails. Now as my hair continued to grow longer, I have now upgraded to buying the Mega Flexi-8 and pinning all of my locks up, this helps with keeping my locks off my back/neck. So below is how I mostly wear my hair now. Also keep a look out for an upcoming post about my weight lost journey once again, it's a killer this time around lol.








I have a total of 2 Mega, 2 Large, and 2 Medium Flexi-8 clips. The Mega and the Large Flexi-8 are what I recommend getting if you want a clip to handle all of your locks.

I totally forgot about this review with the piles of drafts that I have, but I believe this review needs to be shared. I added the jet black color to it at least.

- Prefer the Ebony Black (1N) over Terracotta Blonde (7C)
- Does a great job at lifting when I did the Terracotta Blonde (7C)

Dislike
- After a while, I end up not liking the Terracotta Blonde (7C).
- Very messy to apply
- Not a true permanent solution as far as deep rich color is concern. The color does fade in time.
- Price & amount per box

Conclusion
I really like this brand of color dye and I highly recommend it. I had no issue using it and it did come highly recommended by my consultant. She been using it for years, and always recommend it to her clients. The only issue I find with this brand of dye is finding it at the local shop and at an AFFORDABLE price. Wholefood is a rip off as far as price is concern, and other places have the price at over $13 dollar a box. I buy mines (Ebony Black (1N)) online from Amazon or where ever I can get a free shipping, which is cheaper at $10 a box, plus no tax.

On the right, you will see Terracotta Blonde (7C), but its under direct light. The color is not as bright as it looks on my darker ends vs. the bleach ends. You can check out this post for more pictures. If you want to go for a true color like Sandy Golden Blonde or even Fire Red, you will need to lift (bleach) your color a little more, since this application will not lift your current color to no more then 2-3 shade lighter, depending how dark your current hair/locks color is.

The bleach that I have read that comes highly recommend are Blue Powder Bleach, but I STRONGLY suggest going to a professional to get your color done, especially if you going for a lighter color. If you do decide to bleach, then I suggest adore semi, since they have way more vibrant colors then Naturtint and it is a lot gentler. I will never recommend bleaching to someone that never really colored their hair before, so please use caution.
