Makeup: Story of the Fake URBAN DECAY Naked Palette

8:39 AM

I want to start off by saying to be careful where you buy your makeups. I was brought in by a coworker to buy what I thought to be an authentic Urban Decay product (Facebook Mama Market). As you know, I'm in the process of learning how to apply makeup, and I thought that I was decent enough to start dabbling into eyeshadows now. When the woman offers the product for $35, I have to admit, I looked at what I would be saving vs. doing my own research on whether the product was real or not. I going to be honest here and say I'm such at newbie at this that I had no idea people sell fake makeup?

A lesson was learned yesterday, and I will never fall for that gimmick again.  Below is the picture of the fake stuff. Sorry for the quality, I took the pictures with my phone and I’m shipping it back to her today for a full refund.

So I did my research, after someone kindly told me on Instagram that the above product was fake. I later found blogs detailing the fake vs. the real thing. A lot of the victims were veteran, so that took the sting off my embarrassment. I then show the seller and she stated she had no idea the product was fake. She told me that if I ship it to her, she will refund all the cost. I will of course ship it via certified mail (just in case I need to dispute this with PayPal).

It was a good thing I shared my excitement on Instagram, and I'm happy someone pointed it out as being fake, because I honestly wouldn't have known. So ladies...my embarrassment is a teachable and learning experience for anyone who starting out in the makeup world.

Please note...I not someone that must have brand name products. I would rather buy something that is not well known (and cheap) but still good, then be sold something that is a rip off of someone hard earn work. I know what goes on in developing brands, and to me when someone tries to sell knock off, it is even more upsetting to me.

    1. Nice looking blog, and thanks for the comment. Just make sure you know where to get the right one when you do get this set. I on the other hand will have to wait, because the price tag is a little too high for me now.

  2. Well it's a very good looking knock off lol I keep looking at the picture comparing it to my Naked palette...I saw the comment talked about the brush but I think she's thinking of the Naked 2 it comes with a 2 sided brush. Mine came from Ulta it looks a lot like this one. The box mine came in didn't look like this one though.

    1. I too thought the she was thinking of Naked 2 or even Naked 3, because the brush does come with two sides (even the fake ones come to find out) but my suspicions was on, and as you know, I can investigate the heck out of something. It was a good knock off for sure, but the detail and the writing were off for real, and when I paid close attention to everything it was just off.

The number one tale-tell sign that this was indeed a knock off is the box it comes in; this one didn't come with a primer. Also if you check out the blog link above, that is where you really notice how to spot the fake. I swear my heart literally sink when each picture confirm what I suspect to be true.

    3. It cool, when something is too good to be true...it is too good to be true.

Man if you told me the Naked 1, I would have said you are on. Naked 2 I have three palettes that are very similar to the ones I own already, and that is why I didn't purchase the 2 from her (even though the brush was better on the 2). When I get a chance, I’m just going to buy the eye shadow brushes and just play with the batches I have at home.
