I'm starting to hear the word "ugly stage" thrown in a lot where sisterlocks (and dreadlocks) are concern. To me, sisterlocks never had an ugly stage, but to others it did. When I did the big chop the previous year (after losing all of my top hair) I wore a wig for the first two months. I had a "work" wig and a "going out" wig (and let me tell you I rocked those wigs pack in those days lol). I thought my natural hair was not meant to be shown. At one point I got tired of the wigs and it issues. For exampe, my scalp would always get so hot and itchy, and wearing wigs all the time made me feel "old".

Once my hair was a decent length, I started wearing it out. Let me tell you (I can laugh at it now) but many of my friends and family members looked at me like I was nuts. They would say "So when are you going to do something with your hair" or "That hair is not professional especially for what you do" or "Girl you have a lot of courage to wear your hair out like that". To me I didn't see anything wrong with my hair, but as you can see, others did. I grew to love my natural hair, and found many interesting facts along the way.

When I first gotten my sisterlocks install, everyone from my family members and friend stated "oh...is that sisterlocks?" or "it doesn't even look that good, especially with all the money you spent on it" and to me I was shocked. I thought my babies were just BEAUTIFUL. I guess beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder. I still love my sisterlocks with a passions, and that is why I never saw them as being ugly.

If you thinking of getting sisterlocks, and you are worrying about an ugly stage, DON"T! You will not see anything ugly about your sisterlocks. You may complain in the beginning about the length, and the limited option you have, but you will not consider them ugly. Your sisterlock will be something you are proud of and will cherish forever. I pretty sure everyone from time to time goes through stress and not eating right. I know sometime my stress level goes up so fast and hard, that I tend to lost hair as a result. So as you guys know (if you been following) I was battling hair thinning after my first year of being sisterlocks. Now that my hair is growing back beautiful, I started to do some research on how stress affects the body. So one night I decided to search for the term "stress depletes what vitamin" and found wealth of information on that topic. All in all, stress deplete a good amount of vitamin B (which is good for hair, nails, and skin) and as well as Vitamin C (which is good for immune system, eye sight, and much more). Another interesting thing I found out about Alopecia (turn out I do have Alopecia) is that it’s a condition that is thought to be an autoimmune disorder in which the body attacks its own hair follicles and suppresses or stops hair growth. Say what? Interesting huh! I'm not saying that if you increase your Biotin and Vitamin C intake that you’re Alopecia will be cure but I wonder if there is way to prevent it from coming up in the future. Taking vitamin to cure hair loss or thinning maybe another myth, like using a ton of coco butter will stop stretch mark, but it doesn't hurt to try, and I think peace of mind is always a plus.

In conclusion: Please be advise that this is my opinion guys - I truly believe Biotin is restoring the B vitamins that is being lost as you go on with your daily level of stressful environment. Vitamin C is improving your immune system which help fights against virus etc.

I wanted to see how my hair would look tightly curl. So instead of buying the small version of Soft Spike, I decided to try Pipe Cleaners, for a tightly curly styling option. The Pipe Cleaners pack was super cheap at $99 cent at Michaels - The Arts & Crafts Store. I purchase two black ones (my hair is black for the most part, so that is the color I pick) and since they were quite cheap, If I didn't like my hair tightly curl, I wouldn't feel that bad about not using them again. So I went around and watch tutorial on how to put Pipe Cleaners on locks.

Put the Pipe Cleaners in your locks and roll them in whatever direction you want. Make sure to close the excess end by bending it toward your hair.

My natural hair journey started on January 24, 2009 when I did my "Big Chop", and trust me when I say that was a journey of itself. Managing my natural hair was super easy in the beginning, but as my hair grew longer, the time it took to maintain it grew longer as well. I was spending to much time on my hair and that wasn't cool. I knew at one point in my life I would be locking my hair, and finding out about sisterlocks was the solution to the maintance hog of my natural hair. So I kept looking for a consultant, researched sisterlocks for about 2 years, before taking the plunge. My installation date is schedule for August 18, 2009 with Karen. I’m so happy :).
