My go to styling is the bun or ponytail. So this style edition is really more for the faux bangs I did on my sisterlocks. No scissors were used for this style, and all you really needs is a bit of creativity. I got this great idea from Kawaii Locks, who happened to be the person I purchased the mini sisterlocks jewelry from ^_^. If you want see the "how to" for this, check  this post out. Below is the result of my faux bangs that is all the rage now!


 Default Faux Bang
 You can do the faux bang with just a mini ponytail with some of your sisterlocks hanging in the back.



When Kawaii Locks did this, she used fishtail braid on top of the bang. You can try doing that yourself, I don't know how to do the fishtail braids yet, and I wasn't willing to try it now, since my scalp is still tender from my recent retighten session.

If you thinking of cutting your sisterlocks to create a bang or if you curious on how you would look like with a bang, then this post is for you. You don't need to cut your locks in order to have that bang.

Kawaii Locks was longer then mines, so doing this was difficult at first, and took many attempted because I was trying to bend my locks twice, when I really didn't need to do that. So below was my attempt in creating the faux bang and how I did it. When my locks get longer, I will try it her way again, since right now my bangs look long lol.
Material Needed
Some Type of Bun (Sponge or Clip on Sponge)
Magnetic Rollers (Optional)

Step 1 - I split my locks in the middle, since I didn't want my bangs to be bulky.

I'm was surprised that they are Sisterlocker out there that have never seen the Sisterlocks tools. To me that is amazing! When I was researching sisterlocks, I already knew what the "hook" tool look like even before I met my consultant.

There are blogs that have pictures of each tools (clip & hook), but if you have sisterlocks, your Consultant should be using them in your retighten session only. You should be able to see the consultant using that tool on your hair, and I can't wrap my head around how it is possible that you can't? That question stem from reading a post about how some consultant do everything in their power to hide the tool they are using from their clients, and I was like...seriously????

I understand Consultant can't just leave their tool lying around. Their tools are prone to get stolen or even lost, and replacing them can get difficult, and that depends on how frequently they request for a new one from the home office. So I do understand, but please don't hide your tool from your clients, if that is what you doing now. On the above picture, you can see the picture of what sisterlocks tools look like, and below is the explanation of each.

Sisterlocks Hook Tool 
You can't get this tool without taking the "4-Day Consultant Training Classes". That is the only way of getting this tool! The tool is made of plastic with a hook like feature.

The Hook tool is used to install sisterlocks, as well as to maintain sisterlocks. My consultant prefer this tool over the clip tool because she believes the tension created is a lot tighter with it vs. the clip tool. Now if your consultant uses the clip tool, that is fine, but if you are PAYING your consultant your hard earn money, you can tell her to use either the hook or the clip tool, and she should be able to do it. So in other words, if you don't like her using the clip tool, ask her to use the hook tool to retighten your locks.

Sisterlocks Clip Tool
You can get this tool through the "4-Day Consultant Training Classes" as well as through the "Retightening Classes". The tool is made of plastic with a little clip like feature. You can't see that clip in the above picture but you will when you take the retightening or consultant class.

The Clip tool is used by "DIYer" who wants to maintain they own hair and they also had to take the class in order get it. I have read that some consultant use clip tool to maintain their client hair and that really just boils down to preference. As long as you, the client, are satisfied with their work, you have nothing to worry about.

NOTE: When sisterlocks.com first started offering the retighten classes, they used to provide both tool to the DIYer, but at some point that change, and now they only offer the clip tool for whoever takes the retighten classes.

Now if you a newbie, and looking for a sisterlocks consultant, you can ask them what tool they are currently using. With such a huge investment, please make sure they are using the "hook tool" to install your sisterlocks, if they are not, get your butt out of there.

I wanted the crinkle look to last longer on my sisterlocks, but at the same time, I want to be able to style my hair, and have it looking decent all the time. I found that "braids" do the best crinkle look. The "twists" does the job, but the downside of them is that they look like third day crinkle compare to the "braids" crinkles. Below are the results of the crinkles I got from having my twists on for three days from this twisted bun style.



I do prefer doing braids for crinkles, but if I just washed my hair, and want to just have them up for the summer, the twists will do nicely due to the fact that I can get "neater" styles vs the braids out. An example of style created with the twists can be found  here & here . I like both, and it really up to you on what you think fits your lifestyle better. Note: I have tried doing styles with the braids, but the style looks much better with twists (the twists gives an appearance of having thicker locks).

I have used both Sunny Isle Jamaican Black Castor and Regular 100% Castor Oil (Cold Pressed). The Jamican Black Castor oil is much darker and much thicker then the regular version. The Regular "100%" Castor Oil is natural and has to be cold pressed in order to get the natural pale yellowish color.

Now here is an interesting fact about Jamican Black Castor Oil, it is not a completely "natural" product. In order to get that rich dark color, they add ash from roasted castor beans into the oil. So in truth, the dark color is achieved through ashes, and not because of being less processed vs the regular Castor Oil. Is there a benefit to the ash? Sunny Isle believes there is. In the end, it is up to you to decide.  Below are my reviews of both version of Castor Oil.

Below is references about the ashes.
Organic seeds are roasted and ground by a manual Grinder and then the crushed beans are boiled to extract the 100% pure, dark brown, organic oil. It's the best quality oil on the market. Why you may ask? Compared to other brands it is the darkest Jamaican Black Castor Oil because we roast our beans longer which produces more Ash Content in our oil than any other oil on the market. Conclusion
I have used both version, and I can't tell the different as far as hair growth and uses, because they both do what I need it to do, and that is to soften my locks or to stimulate hair growth. Now the reason why I switch over to the regular cold pressed version was due to the smell of Jamaican Black Castor. You guys know how I'm about smells, and I had an issue with the smell of JBCO, which is smoky. I can't stand the smell of smoke, unless I'm at a BBQ, but my belly is about to be filled, so that doesn't count ^_-. I know they have scented ones now, but since I have tried the Regular Castor Oil, and find it to be just as good, plus it is odorless, I see no reason to change.

So do I recommend these products? Yes I do, but I would recommend the regular version over the JBCO, because it is not only cheaper, but also has no scent.

Now that I'm working out, it starting to get a little bit frustrating not being able to hold on to braid out that I do after a wash. Usually I do my braid out on a Saturday, and by Sunday, I take them down, and go GYM early that morning. By the time I get to work on Monday, the braid out is very loose or non exists because of how much I sweat.

So this time around, instead of doing individual braids, I decided to do twists, and proceeded to create a bun for the back. My sisterlocks are now long enough, where I can do this without any issue. Below is the result. It not that that neat, since I had a class to go to, but I think it will look great if I take my time and do it.





I believe this style can be done for an outing too. I did this in 10 min, but if I do decided to wear this out to an event etc., I will take my time to make this look neater. Note: I added the flower after I came back from the GYM, since I like it so much, I just continued to wear it.

Normal Lightening Condition

The result of this was very beautiful and natural looking. I going to update the "How To" post with updated pictures using the soft pastel colors in the near future (when I apply this again). Below is my review on Soft Pastel Chalk on Sisterlocks.

I finally got my purple highlights, and it came out really good under the flash (it honestly look like it glows under flash), but it is very dull under regular light. This is not as bright as the Jerome Spray (both the purple and the auburn), but it definitely more natural looking then both sprays.

I honestly like it, and I think the lighter color will do better than the darker colors on my sisterlocks. I highly recommend this as an option to spice up your locks with color. You can check out the updated post about pastel on chalk here (that was done under the flash light). I think I may need to get some holding spray to see if the color would last even longer.

The below pictures were taken with my phone, which show how the actually purple color look under regular light. Trust when I say the darker colors would do well with bleach hair, but with darker color hair, it looks very dull and not very noticeable. When I apply this again in the future, I will do another post, and this time with the lighter colors. Please avoid my mistake, and do not apply this with regular chalk on your sisterlocks. You need premium, high pigmented soft pastel chalk.
I felt it best to take the pictures with my phone, since it will show the colors a little truer to form vs. using my camera. Even with these pictures, they are much brighter than what you actually see. Even my daughter was asking "Where the highlights?” My little girl is a trip (*chucking*). She did notice it more on the pictures, which she thought was "Cool".

Didn't I just say I wasn't going to test stuff on my locks again? This time around, I just did it on two locks first (just to be on the safe side -_-). I used the same method explain on the How To, and got the below result. I added in two more section to complete the look. Can I say this was a MUCH better outcome, and I finally got my PURPLE HIGHLIGHTS!!!!!! So ladies and gentlemen, the key is to use Soft Pastel the Premium Artist Quality.






I went ahead and modify my post; I will release a official review on Soft Pastel on Sisterlocks this weekend. Note: The color are much brighter on these picture due to the flash.

This style was done to celebrate the 4th of July. I'm now releasing it because it came with a round of posts attached to it. I wanted to see if the highlight would wash out, how long it will last, and if I needed to add some additional notes on how to do this. I did a complete shot, so you can actually see the chalk on my hair, is not as "chalky" far away. I took a lot of these pictures under direct flash light. Under normal lighting conditions, it doesn't look so bad. But you still using chalk to apply the highlight, and it look like chalk on your hair. I think this look less chalky with thicker locks, straighter or loose hair. Check out the how to, result, and review of chalk on Sisterlocks.

I really didn't want to put chalk on my sisterlocks, especially without knowing what it entales, and how it will look. I search around to see if anyone has apply it to their sisterlocks, and didn't find anything. I did find people who has used it on much thicker locks, and had success with it. So that give me hope on trying it on my sisterlocks. Once the hair dried, the color became more apparent. Keep in mind that most of these pictures are under direct light/flash, so you see more detail.

I didn't like the result much, and I think I'm going to have to skip testing stuff out on my locks for a while now. Doing this right involve a lot of work. So if you have time in your hand, and want to try something different with a range of colors, you may want to consider this as an option. Below are the review on using Chalk as an highlight option for Sisterlocks or Lock in general.
