I got a peak of this at the Natural Hair Expo which was going on the same time as the Sisterlocks Expo. The lady recommended this for moisture control. I didn't care for it then, since I original told her I'm pretty much good on moisturizing products. She told me to just give it a try for that day, and if I still wanted to buy it, I can always get it later. I ask her a couple of questions before she sprayed it on and then I tried it for the rest of that day. I LOVE this product. I went home and the next day I purchase the bottle. I can truly say this bottle was a success for me. So I have upgraded to this moisturizer. See Full Review Below.

I tend to be very careful and anal with any product I put on my hair. I take pictures of my hair every day to make sure it doesn't cause build up. I also take pictures of my hair when I wash it, to see if any of the products lingers.

Likes
- Only needs 1 application
- Little to no water needed
- Not that greasy
- Doesn't linger ( Cause residue)
- Love the Pina Colada smell. Not overpowering.

Dislike
- It's very thick. So you can't just spray it on your locks.

I decided to color my hair a 7c Terracotta Blonde (Naturtint Terracotta Blonde (7c), 5.6 OZ) after my 15th retighten session. I been asking my consultant for months to color my hair and she finally agree. I told her that I didn't want to bleach or lift the color from my hair ( it is very drying ) and I totally believe that was the reason my hair was so dry in the beginning of my journey. I happy with the color, but man, was the box expensive as heck. I almost fainted when I saw the price. My consultant said to buy 4 box just in case, I was close to giving up on coloring my hair. Then I won a 25 dollar gift card at the office party, and I must say I was very happy to buy it =).

I did a post about the disadvantage of Sisterlocks earlier this month. Now I want to talk about the advantage of sisterlocks. Sisterlocks is really not that bad once you get all the kinks and extra stuff out of the way, and with thousand of woman rocking it, it must be a good thing right? I love finding and reading about sisterlocks on blog from time to time and I have run across blogs where women talk about not to doing sisterlocks  and decided instead a different locking method. Some of their reasoning was due to the cost, and how they felt it didn't seem worth it (even though they could afford it) or they had some misguided information about sisterlocks. The interesting thing about those blog is when they convert. These woman end up cutting the original locking method, and started the sisterlocks anyway because that is what they wanted. Don't let that be you. If the post about the disadvantages of sisterlocks didn't scare you off, then get Sisterlocks.

Point I
Sisterlocks gives you many styling option, and they are one of the most versatile locking method out there. For example, you can make them appear bigger with the Two Strand Twist method. You can have them super straight by flat ironing them (I haven't tried this, but I seen a lot of sisterlocks wearer do this). You can curl them, create up-dos, create wave/layers, the possibilities are endless. Because of the unique size of sisterlocks, they enable you to do any styling that you can think of, and all of that creation is with your own hair. The reason they are so versatile is the trademark grid, and interlocking method, which enable sisterlocks wearer to grow long small locks. Because of the tiny sections, and meticulous parting that mimics actual individual hair strands, this makes it easier for the parting, separating, and running your fingers through your locks without any need of a comb.


Point II
The appearance of sisterlocks looks like small braid from far away (even though they are dreadlocks). They are very neat in appearance and looks groomed. If you have thin hair, it will give you thick full locks (once your sisterlocks has past the baby stage). Another interesting thing about the appearance of sister, is the fact that your scalp hardly show as much, this is all due because of the amount of locks and the fullness it shows. With the huge amount of locks, it gives the illusion of a full head of hair. Also as an extra bonus, the fact that your locks are so small, you hardly see the white bulb (the shedding hair that get trap in your locks) as much. So you can count that fact that you don't have to constantly dye your hair if you don't like the white specks on your locks. And if you are a professional, then Sisterlocks will fit in perfectly, because of it's appearance of neatness.

Point III
Sisterlocks require no product as far as retightening is concern. So you don't need to add any Beeswax or any type of locking product to your sisterlocks. This is extremely helpful, because you can then avoid things like mildew and product build up in the future. Note: If you a product junkie, you may want to think about mildew, and build up if you continue that practices with sisterlocks.


Point IV
Have you ever felt the breeze flowing though your hair? What about the complete freedom of going to the beach or just dancing in the rain. Worrying about wind and water is a thing of the past, when you are sisterlocks.

Point V
Since the sisterlocks is retighten at the root, where the new growth is, you can go in for a touch up (retighten) every 4-6 weeks (yeah I said it, A MONTH, to retighten new growths). Some sisterlocks wearer can even go as far as two month without a retighten (this all depend on the size and growth of the hair). As an extra bonus, since the sisterlocks are retighten at the root, you can have perm (relaxer) with 1.5 inch of natural new growth, and still be able to get sisterlocks.

Point VI
Final point is the community and support. There are ton of blogs, forum, and information on Sisterlocks that makes transitioning through the stage of sisterlocks very easy for you. I can say truly what set sisterlocks apart from any other type of locking method, is the grid (parting of locks), so if you love the size and the grid, then trust when I say you WILL NOT be happy with any other locking method.

Note: Most of the benefits & point comes when your sisterlocks are fully matured. So have fun and remember to check out my previous post about the disadvantages of sisterlocks before making a commitment to get sisterlocks.

Also note that when you do decide to get sisterlocks, the initial price you pay is for a package. Package: Consultation, Installation, Follow-Up Visit (First Retightening), and a Sisterlocks Starter Set (Shampoo, Rubber-bands for washing, and a tip sheet).

Instead of me documenting all of my lost lock due to the hair thinning on individual posts, I decided to do one big post about my issue with hair thinning earlier this year. I took notes on when each lock fell off.


All the locks that has fallen off has healthy new growth coming in. That is the REAL different between hair thinning and lock snapping or breaking off. If your hair is thinning, then of course your lock will be thinning as well, hence the falling out or breaking off. This is something I will no doubt battle for the rest of my life. So far the battle has been WON by me, and I'm very happy to say that at least.

Each picture well state what date and what I did. It is interesting how your own hair can tells a story of its own.

The picture on the right was lost on 9/21/2010. It wasn't lost per say more like taken off since it was hanging by two hair strain.
This lock was lost on 10/10/2010. While I was pulling my hair back it just fell on the sink. That one was a nice strong lock as you can see.
Final lost lock was lost this morning. I work up and just saw it on the bed. I'm not surprise, because I was debating on taking that one off. This one is the final one that was in that area.

My consultant didn't bother combining that area much since the new growth are coming in thick. If my hair continues to grow in that area, they will be much bigger locks. I also want to send a warm welcome to all of my new subscribers. Don't know what happen, or what I have written, but I feel very bless to see that I have a total of 37 new subscribers, who are now reading my about my sisterlocks journey. Shout out to you guys =). A person asked me "what is a bad hair day for sisterlocks?” I don't have much of a bad hair day really. My bad hair day consist of being lazy with my sisterlocks, and pulling them back, and adding an accessory in the front (found a great moisturizer, so now I don't even need to wet it. I will do an in-depth review once I have tested it out).

I still can’t do a decent ponytail, if I could, I would be rocking that. Today I decided to take some pictures on my way to work, on what I consider my "bad hair" day. Most people find my hair still looking cute on those days. I'm badly needed of retightening but you can't really tell from the pictures. My retighten is schedule for next week Friday.

Hi all, as you know, I went to the Sisterlocks explosion on Saturday. I had a great time and I finally met the creator of Sisterlocks in person. I can’t stress how nice she was. I took two classes. One was about Holistic Living, and the other was about hair loss. Both classes were free! I meet a couple of ladies at the event, most I remember from blogs I have read. Sophia is even more amazing in person, and Robin (who if is reading this, need to send me her blog link), and also a wonderful lady from the Facebook Fan Page.

Trip Spending

•  Round Trip Ticket cost was $ 139.40
• MARTA Train Cost was $4.50 round trip
• I happen to also visit a natural hair expo that was happening at the same time. I purchase a dedangler for my daughter hair. Cost $10 for three bottles. Normally the cost is $10 PER bottle at Beauty Exchange.
• I purchase two beautiful hair ties from Marvelous Locks, Looks, & Leisure Times. Cost $25
• Food: Went to a bar grill, and purchase a burger and onion wings, for $12 and went to Moe’s, and purchase a burrito and drink, for $10.
• When I was going through the security gate I found out that I couldn’t carry any liquid product that had more than 3.5 oz. Can anyone say I was a little pissed!!!!! End up buying a bag for $10, and I had to pay to check in the bag, which cost $20

Total Cost: $230.90

Things I learn

1. I have the standard sisterlocks size. I thought mines was super small, but one of the season sisterlocks consultant, stated that this used to be how sisterlocks were done in the very begining, but now consultant are getting trained on making it bigger, which makes it more affordable for clients.
2. Sisterlocks will be upgrading or changing some of their ingredient on the main sisterlocks products line. They also researching and developing some new products as well, example would be hair coloring especially made for sisterlocks.
3. The main sisterlocks blog will be coming in soon, she told me in about a month, so keep a look out ladies.
4. I learn a lot more, and will do full blog post explaining in detail, what I have learned. Keep a look out for posts about coloring, hair loss, etc.

I decided to write this post because I wanted to inform the newbie’s on what to considered when getting sisterlocks, and avoid the lost of time and money that is involve in getting sisterlocks, especially if you still not sure if you want sisterlocks or not. Each dreadlock technique has its own disadvantage, but as a sisterlocks wearer, I will list sisterlocks (brotherlocks) disadvantages.

Point I
Cost - If you can't afford them. Don't get them. It doesn’t matter if you going to use your income tax to foot the bill for the initial install. If you can't afford them to beginning with, on a month to month bases, then don't get them. Who better to know their own finances than you. I call on you to be the responsibility party for controlling your own pocketbook. Budget and find out if you can afford sisterlocks and don't waste your income tax and money period, especially if you know you can't afford it in a long run. If you like wearing weave or braids please check out this post to see if you truly can’t afford sisterlocks.


Note: You can maintain your own sisterlocks after your locks has settled, but Point III comes into play. If either of Point I, Point II, and Point III comes into play  then don't bother getting sisterlocks. Also I know thing can happens, and you may have been able to afford it in the beginning, but due to job loss etc, you can't afford sisterlocks now. Point III still applies to you and if you feel that way, don't get sisterlocks.


Point II
Maintenance - This coincide inside with the "Cost". If you can't afford the cost to maintain your sisterlocks, please don't bother getting sisterlocks. You are paying for the time of the Consultant and they truly deserve the money that they are being paid. It takes a lot of work to retighten sisterlocks as well as to install them (14-18 hours split between days). FYI...sisterlocks are not completely maintenance free. It requires a commitment of 4-6 weeks of retighten.


If you were a DIYER and believe Sisterlocks is the solution to your detangling and maintenance hog of your current natural hair routine, please don't get sisterlocks. Sisterlocks is not a miracle cure. Sisterlocks will have you committed to someone to maintain your sisterlocks in the beginning. I hear comments like this a lot "This take me back to getting relaxers (perms)". If that statement applies to you and you feel that way, then you will have a problem with someone maintaining your hair for 6 months tops.You are going to be with your consultant for a couple of month until your sisterlocks is settle.


Point III
Patience - I can't stress enough how much patience you need for sisterlocks. Sisterlocks are not INSTANT dreads. If you don't have patience, and you don’t want to be bother with the time it takes for your sisterlocks to mature, don’t bother getting sisterlocks. Especially if Point I & II is in the pictures. Also If you don't have patience now, then you WILL NOT have the patience to maintain your own sisterlocks, which ranges from 300 - 600 on average. Maintaining your own sisterlocks is a lot more time consuming, than any other dreadlock technique. I'm talking about 4-8 hours, depending on the size of your locks, and the amount of growth you have.


Note: I'm perfectly happy with someone maintaining my hair but one day I will learn how to maintain my own sisterlocks because I don't ever want to be stuck without having my hair retighten due to some incident that is beyond my control.


Point IV
Time - If you lead a VERY busy life. Sisterlocks require 2.5 - 6 hours of your life every 4 - 6 weeks. Save yourself the trouble if you can't fit the maintenance of sisterlocks in your schedule. I hear people say that they just don't like the amount of time it takes to retighten sisterlocks and they feel that it is a waste of time. If that sound like you, don’t get sisterlocks, especially if you don’t want to take the time to do your own research, as well as finding the right consultant, and taking the time to ask question, and making sure you getting the right product. There are too many horror stories of sister that didn’t get true sisterlocks, or consultant being sloppy with their works, and that should be something that you learn from.


If any of the above Point applies to you. Don't get sisterlocks. Also for the non sisterlocks wearer, please don't mock or say negative comments about people who have sisterlocks. I hear it and I read it and it’s sad that we as African American can't be nice to one another. Just like we have different shades, we also have different hair style, pattern, and locks, and we need to appreciate the differences and move on. I don't think I'm better then you just because I have sisterlocks. I just happen to choose sisterlocks because I love the look and I’m willing to commit to the time and money it takes to achieve long healthy small locks.

I showing tough love to avoid money being wasted because someone didn't do enough research to figure out what is involve with getting sisterlocks. None of my point is new. Save yourself the trouble, and learn about these issues before getting sisterlocks. All the blogger out there that are talking about their sisterlocks experience are there for a reason, and that is to help you make the right decision/choice.
